The term "aiwa" -- pronounced 'eh - wah' means "yes" and is often used as an expression of appreciation when a dancer is attractive or displays beautiful dancing. With this documentary, we will explore the various ups & downs that Bellydancers of color experience due to them not being what mainstream envisions as being a bellydancer ie. "I Dream of Jeannie".

As my research began on this topic almost 3 yrs ago, I have discovered that there are HUNDREDS of black bellydancers and dancers of color who have stories that are not being told. With the help of my trusted production partner, we are on a mission to make this a worthy project that will hopefully entertain, educate and celebrate!

As a dancer myself, I've experienced the ups and downs that comes with being a part of this dance art and in finding other women like myself that share my experiences made deciding to pursue this project a "no-brainer".

Profiling Bellydancers of Color who are expressing themselves in the various forms of the dance including American Tribal, American & Egyptian Cabaret, and various Fusion styles, "Aiwa!: Bellydancers of Color" will be a celebration, a journey as well as a historical documentation...the first of its kind.
